We would also like to share with you an event that the parents on our team recently put together. On December 13th, the Bantam A team travelled to Camp Pendleton to bring Christmas cheer to the Blankenship Family. The Blankenships are a family of 5 children (3 girls ages 6,8,17; and 2 boys ages 11, 14). The mother, Lisa, is a very strong and personable women who is in charge of keeping the house and daily activities going while her husband, Cpl Blankenship, serves our country in Iraq.

Much of what Cpl Blankenship does in Iraq is kept top secret (even from his wife) until his teams mission is completed. Occasionally, on the base, a bell will toll notifying families that a comrade and loved has fallen. No details can be given out until the families can be notified. You can only imagine how difficult and stressful these times are on the spouses and the children.

With this in mind, we went to the Blankenship family home to let them know that the Jr Ducks family appreciates the sacrifice they are making to protect our FREEDOM. We started the visit by presenting each of them a Anaheim Ducks jersey. We then shared with them gifts that we had purchased to help make their Christmas a little brighter while they await the return of their husband and father, Cpl Blankenship.

I truly believe that this experience and the stories that Lisa Blankenship shared with the young men on our team helped all of us realize how lucky we are to have men and women willing to make this sacrifice for us.

Finally, The Bantam A team has begun a weekly newsletter that we send to the troops overseas updating them on our teams progress. The list consists of names and e-mail addresses from families on our team that have neighbors or family members serving. Currently we are writing to Ground Troops in Iraq, Doctors in Afghanistan and US Air Force Air Traffic Controllers off the Coast of Saudi Arabia. If you or your staff have a loved one serving, we would be happy to add their name to our list.

In closing, I have attached a few pictures of our visit.

Happy New Year and God Bless America and God Bless our Troops and their families.

SANTA MARGARITA CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL

JOINS ANAHEIM DUCKS HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY LEAGUE

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that Santa Margarita Catholic High School will join the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League for the 2009-10 season. Santa Margarita joins the JSerra Catholic High School in the program, which launched in September 2008. Several more schools are expected to join the league next season. The Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League is the first of its kind in Orange County.

“We are very excited to offer Ice Hockey at SMCHS and work with the Anaheim Ducks in this venture,” said SMCHS Activities Director Bryan Kretzmer. “The support of the Ducks will allow us to offer yet another activity that our students can participate in and create a spark of interest in the sport.”

Established in 1987, Santa Margarita Catholic High School is a nationally recognized award-winning coeducational, college preparatory, diocesan high school with approximately 1,610 students and more than 6,100 alumni. The school is located on a beautiful 42-acre campus in Rancho Santa Margarita nestled against the Saddleback Mountains. For more information on Santa Margarita Catholic High School, please visit www.smhs.org.

“This is another step in the process of growing High School hockey in Orange County,” said Art Trottier, General Manager of Anaheim ICE and Director of the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League. “We are very pleased to be able to add a school with the stature of Santa Margarita.”

The JSerra Ice Lions began play in September 2008 as the charter member. The league is designed as an extension of the Ducks’ organizational goal of growing hockey talent close to home, while also working to achieve California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) status. During the initial year, JSerra plays an independent high school schedule, skating under the Jr. Ducks banner. The club is competing against other Southern California Amateur Hockey Association (SCAHA) teams and participating in three high school hockey tournaments across the country. As the league grows, the Anaheim Ducks will continue to provide financial support for each team involved in the program.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Denise Biddle. Denise has been involved with the Junior Ducks, Lady Ducks and Anaheim ICE for the past ten years. She wore many hats during the seasons her daughter Kelly played, including Manager, Team Mom and Yearbook Coordinator. Most notably, though, was the kindness, caring and support she gave to so many and we are all fortunate to have been able to call her Friend.

Our deepest sympathies to John, Kelly, Brian and family. Denise will be truly missed.
